A Friend To Talk To

Make every moment of 2002 count

Dear Readers,

Given the changes in the global mood of late, 2002 will be a decisive year.

It will be a year of recovery and inner evaluation. A time to ask yourself if you are happy being who you are and where you are in the grand scheme of things.

I hope that 2002 will be the year that we band together and enjoy life to its fullest, realizing that nothing is guaranteed. Security is something we must work for and not something that comes automatically.

It will be a year of rediscovering the cities and communities that we live in. As well, respecting the countries in which we live and the freedoms that we are granted.

Resolve to make 2002 the year you visit that one place you've never been to before. For instance, I'm sure many people living in the city of Toronto pass by the Royal Ontario Museum everyday to work, but if we took a survey, you would be startled at the low number of people that have actually visited.

Unarguably, Toronto is a world class city that has a lot to offer.

Here's the Desi News list of places you and your family should visit if you haven't already:

1. The Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen's Park, 416-586-8000.

2. The Ontario Science Centre, 770 Don Mills Road, 416-696-1000.

3. The Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas Street West, 416-979-6648.

4. Toronto Zoo, 361A Old Finch Avenue, 416-392-5900.

5. Hockey Hall of Fame, 30 Yonge Street, 416-360-7765

We think you will be pleasantly surprised to find how affordable and accessible these venues are any time of the year.

Enjoy yourself and make 2002 the best yet.

For many of my readers, this is also the first year of college/university studies.

Work hard and don't give up. Be proud of your accomplishments and consider mistakes as a path to the right answer.

Most importantly, show academic tenacity now and you'll reap the benefits later on. You really will, never mind if that's what your parents are also saying to you right now!

From our family to yours, Happy New Year!
