Jan. 6: A mushaira has been organized in honour of Urdu poet Johar Chinioty, chairman, Writers Guild. Community Centre at Ellesmere/Warden intersection, 20 Canadian Road, Toronto. 8-10 pm. Prominent poets, authors and journalists, including Darakhshan Sidi-qui, Nazim Maqbool, Karamat Ullah Ghori, Abida Karamat, Zulphi Tasleem Elahi, Naseem Sayad, Nuz-hat Sadique, Iftikhar Hai-dar, Akhtar Asaf, Kaleem Zaffar, Muneef Ahshar, Mumtaz Khan, Aarifia Muzaffar, Sultana Temoori, Latafat Ali Sidiqui , Naeem Chaudhri, Arshad Usmani, Ahmed Zaheer Khan and Raheem Anjan are expected to attend. Ashfaq Hussain, poet and "Encyclopedia of Urdu literature", will preside and Parveen Verma, deputy chief consul general of India, will be the chief guest.

Jan. 6 - 7: South Asian Students' Alliance (sasa) is holding their annual event at Royal Constellation Hotel. More than 10,000 students from accros North America are expected to attend. For more information, call Selvin Mat-hew at 416-473-9170.
