Born in India, and raised all over the world,
Jacob was disappointed with the lack of vibrant colour in
Canadian wardrobes. In a desire to see something more colourful,
she created Urban Exotic; something that would combine
the urban landscape of Toronto and the lush, colourful landscape
of her childhood – into one fashionable whole.
"When I walk into a mall, I see the same thing
over and over again", sighs Jacob. "But then, on the street, I
would see these amazing pieces and wonder why everyone doesn’t
have it. Urban Exotic will give new designers the exposure they
so desperately need, and we need to support our own. Toronto
is a fashion capital; we need to see more of it!"
Knowing that she couldn’t be the only one bored
with the local mall’s offerings, she created what she plans to
be a bi-annual event. The first show is on October 3 at the
Argonaut Rowing Club, a facility dating back to 1872.
In an effort to give these designers that "leg
up", Urban Exotic and Aria Events will provide all the
elements needed for the show; all they have to do is provide 8
–10 designs.
