EIGHT LANGUAGES, EIGHT WEEKENDS, 30 SHORT PLAYS!

Gujarati shorts director Akhil Pandya. Sawitri Shorts Theatre Festival 2024 announced short plays in Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil and Malayalam.

Sawitri Theatre Group announced the Sawitri Shorts Theatre Festival (SSTF) 2024. Expanded to include eight languages, it celebrates the linguistic diversity and talent in Mississauga and its environs through short theatre plays ranging from 10 to 45 minutes in duration.

SSTF 2024 brings communities together, fosters a greater understanding of the differences and celebrates the spirit of resilience and resonance of our shared human experiences. Conceived, curated and created by co-founders and artistic co-directors Jasmine Sawant and Shruti Shah, in collaboration with other artistes, it was born out of the Hindi Shorts launched in 2018. This initiative is an incubator space for emerging writers of short plays, emerging actors who are also often new generation artistes working alongside established professional artistes to explore, experiment and engage in the creation of short, dramatic scripts and hone their skills as artistes performing in their language of comfort. Many of these talented emerging actors are also newcomers to Canada and the opportunity to perform in their language immediately serves to make them feel welcome.
