Many South Asian festivals are celebrated during January. These include:

Lohri (January 14)

Pongal and Makar Sankranti  (both on January 15)

Vasant Panchami on January 26.

Lincoln Alexander Day, on January 21, in honour of the first Black Canadian Member of Parliament. Alexander was also the first visible minority to be appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in 1985. 

January 28 marks 107 years since (most) women in Manitoba won the right to vote.
