GREAT INITIATIVES BY THE GOOD FOLKS AT TCF

At Toronto Calcutta Foundation’s (TCF) project in Kherur Village, India, 100 students are provided with breakfast and snacks along with free education, made possible by generous donors in Canada.

Recently, Uttam Chakrabarti had the opportunity to visit all of Toronto Calcutta Foundation’s (TCF) projects in India with Chitra Ghosh (fellow TCF director).

It was a truly uplifting experience for both of them, he says. “The children and teachers greeted us with enthusiasm and warmth at every stop. We are deeply moved by the experience. We are very proud to inform donors, sponsors, supporters, volunteers and friends of TCF that all of our programs are running very well. Each visit reaffirmed the impact of our collective efforts.”

Chakrabarti also shared news of their project at Kherur Village. The 100 students at this centre are provided with breakfast and snacks along with free education.

“At our first TCF Coaching Centre in Habra, we serve over 80 students, with an equal number of boys and girls from classes IX to XII,” he said. “In addition to that we offer computer education and spoken English classes. The centre has played a vital role in shaping the futures of many students. Numerous alumni have gone on to pursue higher education and are now successful professionals, including doctors, engineers, teachers, nurses, optometrists, hotel managers, and law enforcement officers.

“TCF’s Ghutiari Sharif Pre-school currently has two classes: Preparatory Class I and II. We provide regular education to over 60 students, along with school uniforms, bags, shoes, and essential supplies. Breakfast is served to the children every day.

“At the TCF Coaching Centre at Hotar, we have 140 students from classes VI to XII with an equal number of boys and girls. Spoken English and computer training classes are also provided. To further enhance their skills, we bought four computers and one projector so that students no longer have to wait for their turn at a computer and the teacher is able to share training materials via this projector. At Bolpur Nildanga and Baganpara Villages, we have over 100 students at two centres.”

Chakrabarti thanked donors for their unwavering support which has been the backbone of these projects over the years.

Their Summer Fundraising Event will be held on July 26 at 6 pm at St. Basil The Great College School, 20 Starview Lane, Etobicoke.
