FREE TICKETS FOR BRAMPTON FILM SHOWCASE

Get a sneak peek at the rising film and video talent emerging from the city. This year’s eleven films from both established and emerging Brampton filmmakers, producers, and actors include a workplace comedy, heartwarming stop-motion animation, a wedding comedy, meditations on loss, a hyper-local documentary, Brampton Batman and much more.

This is a great opportunity to connect with industry peers and fellow film enthusiasts. Anyone interested in growing the Brampton film, video, and media arts scene should be sure to join us.

Help celebrate and recognize the best films by selecting the Audience Award Winner! This award will be handed out after the screening along with the Judges’ Choice Award winners.

Following the screening, join special guests like BAO Ambassador Sasha Leigh Henry and others in the lobby to socialize and celebrate the filmmakers.

Some films contain mature situations and themes including kidnapping or abductions, death or dying, blood, mental illness or ableism, alcohol or drug abuse. Viewer discretion is advised. This showcase is not suitable for children under the age of twelve (12) years.

Lost Wax, directed by Omorose Osagie. When a young girl disappears from her apartment complex, Osas, a bronze caster and outsider within her community, is haunted by her grief for someone she only knew from a distance. In this surrealist drama weaving live action and 2D animation, we follow the thread between the disappearance of an Edo girl from Benin city and the stolen art of the Benin kingdom. Duration: 14:07

18 to 35, directed by Rahul Chaturvedi. When Wall Street exec Misha Patel loses her job and visa in one blow, she’s forced back to her hometown of London, Ontario, only to find herself unexpectedly running her father’s chaotic youth hostel. Featuring actors Jean Yoon, Andrew Phung, and Ali Hassan. Duration: 9:00

The Stillness Between, directed by Adam Cushman. A grieving spouse comes to terms with a sudden loss. Duration: 7:10

Fried Fish & Plantain, directed by Paul-Daniel Torres. Two years after their first night together, Willie & Marisol have their “first date.” As they navigate a “post-pandemic” Toronto, they sift through who and what they’ve become amidst the circumstances, grief, and secrets that have kept them apart. Together, they discover if there can be love after loss. Starring TIFF 21' Rising Star Emma Ferreira and TIFF Next Wave Alum Paul-Daniel Torres. Duration: 13:38

Bug, directed by Lily Zhang. A Boy and a Bug find each other resting in a field, their lives and journeys begin to blur together as long forgotten memories are recalled as dreams. Duration: 4:40

Are You Being Thanked Endlessly?, directed by Gulzar. Filmmaker Gulzar and their two best friends spend a tired afternoon together. What begins as a playful conversation about hair, turns into an intimate reflection on gender, identity and belonging. Duration: 14:50

Getting There, Directed by Pree Rehal. Getting There is a heartwarming stop motion film about two best friends trying to get to the beach whilst navigating public transit in the big city. Will they make it? Sure to make you laugh, this film is inspired by true events of navigating public transit as Disabled young people. Duration: 1:34

A Clay Horse, directed by Abdullah Khan. Unable to speak since escaping Kabul, Aarash, a 12-year-old Afghan refugee, relies on his radio to survive the memories that haunt him. Duration: 19:00

Pick One, directed by Julian De Zotti. It’s Danny’s wedding day, and he has a big choice to make. Cue the insanity. Pick One is a chaotic bisexual Italian wedding rom-com... with a porchetta. Featuring actors Carlo Rota and Jennifer Dale. Duration: 9:08

I see myself in you, directed by Amreen Kullar. Amidst rising xenophobia, three South Asian settlers paint a more holistic picture of what Brampton is today. The film acts as a fleeting memory, creating vignettes of the ever changing cultural pocket through multi language prose and 16mm film. Duration: 9:13

Brampton Batman, directed by Akshay Jagroop. Patrolling the streets at night, Brampton Batman proves that you don’t need violence to make a difference. Having been the dark knight for over a decade now, he acts as an icon in the community, promoting goodwill among Brampton residents. Duration: 7:54
