A WINDOW TO THE SOUL

Visual Arts Brampton’s weekly Art Refined Class for teens stimulates students’ creative abilities through focused, in-depth art instruction. Students picked their own subject matter, sketched out several concepts and picked their favourite to paint on a 16x20” canvas. They spent four to five two-hour sessions on the project. Two of the recent works are featured in this issue.

Sundrop, acrylic, by Faith H, age 14

Faith used a character from their favourite game and a complementary colour scheme to draw attention to the importance of the character. They used a high size-contrast of the figure to the earth, creating a world-ruling feel, fitting the character’s personality and telling a visual story.

Untitled, acrylic, by Grace C, age 14

Eyes are often seen as windows to our souls and are a common theme in surrealism. The flowers and plants sprouting through the eyes are a reflection of self growth from within.
