DESI DIARY

WHERE CAN YOU FIND DIWALI CARDS IN CANADA?

Shivani Sharma.

During the pandemic in 2020, Shivani Sharma’s family was looking for ways to make Diwali special despite not being able to meet family or friends.

“We decided to look for greeting cards to mail out and were so disappointed and surprised that in a place as diverse as Canada (especially Toronto!) we couldn’t find any Diwali themed cards,” she says.

Her casual comment about how she wished she could design something that people would love for Diwali was met by a “Then why don’t you?” response from her husband.

So she did.

“I had no experience in this industry or the business world but I was determined to figure it out,” says Sharma. “I looked for a printer and it became a family affair right away with our four kids helping to brainstorm ideas for different cards. We came up with 40 designs around Hindu, Sikh and Islamic holidays and events and launched Mubarak Cards on Instagram and Etsy in February 2021.”

The cards were immediately well-received and Mubarak Cards has been a family business ever since.

There is a wide selection of Diwali cards to choose from.

“We do everything from packing, delivering, and designing the cards as a family so we can help other families like ours celebrate special occasions unique to our cultures.”

Two years later, and with Diwali quickly approaching on October 24, look for Mubarak Cards on www.shopmubarakcards.com.
