CANADIAN CRICKET SENSATION MAKES GLOBAL HEADLINES
Canadian cricket is drawing global attention following a historic performance by 19-year-old Brampton native Yuvraj Samra, who scored 110 runs (65 balls) against world No. 4 ranked New Zealand at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Chennai.
Samra’s innings set multiple tournament records, including:
Youngest century in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history (19 years old).
Highest individual score of the 2026 tournament to date.
One of the top five highest individual scores in tournament history.
First-ever player from an Associate Nation (countries outside cricket’s full-member group) to score a T20 World Cup century.
In cricket, a “century” occurs when a batter scores 100 runs in a single innings - a rare milestone in T20 cricket the shortest format and comparable to a four-plus-goal game in hockey or a 50-plus-point performance in basketball.
Although Canada fell short of the result, Samra’s performance against a top-ranked international opponent has generated significant worldwide attention, highlighting the rapid growth of cricket participation and elite talent development across Canada.
