MEET ZAINAB
SINGING IN THE RAIN
Zainab Haya Pasha, a singer/songwriter from Islamabad, has just released her debut single Baarish, a melodic ode to the monsoon season.
“I started singing before I started talking,” says Zainab. “My family, friends, and loved ones have always supported and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. It is because of all that and my passion for music that I finally released Baarish.
“It’s special is because it’s about the rain. The song speaks for itself, but just to explain it a little more, it’s about my love for rain, and how it soothes my soul. It’s about how anything associated with rainy weather makes me happier than I could possibly imagine!”

Name: Zainab Haya Pasha. Zainab means fragrant flower. My mother always wanted to name her first daughter Zainab, and my father wanted it to be Haya and so the story goes, the wife always wins.
Currently: I just released my debut track, Baarish, and now I’m working on some new stuff.
Favourite colour: Magenta.
Favourite outfit: New-found love for long skirts. Forever love for pyjamas.
Favourite Bollywood stars: Madhuri Dixit, Shahid Kapoor.
Favourite Hollywood star: Johnny Depp.
Favourite movie: Call me a romantic, but Hum Aapke Hain Kaun!
Favourite singer: I don’t have just one. These days it’s Beyonce and Billie Eilish.
Favourite song: Again, I don’t have just one. My song of the week is Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish.
Favourite TV shows: Friends, Charmed.
Favourite ice cream flavours: Strawberry cheesecake and blueberry sherbet.
Favourite dish: I’m the biggest foodie there is. Been craving steak these days.
Favourite restaurant: Wild Wings, especially on Wednesdays so I get double the wings.
Favourite sport: Depends, is yoga a sport?
Favourite sportsperson: Obviously, David Beckham. We all know why.
Favourite author: I’m a Shakespeare girl.
Favourite activities: Eating, binge watching, sleeping.
I hang out: With my friends and family.
I’m freaked out by: Lizards.
I need: Endless supply of makeup and sushi.
I want to be: “A better musician and a better person”, is the formal answer. I also want to be able to eat and not gain weight.
My role models: My grandparents. They’ve taught me a lot and it’s been great learning from their experiences and being their friend. If I could be even half of how amazing they are!
Tips to save the planet: Educate.
In a perfect world: It should be cloudy with a chance of meatballs.
